You invested in a handmade piece because you value quality. Now let us make sure it lasts. Proper care is the difference between a piece that looks beautiful for years and one that loses its magic after a few washes.

Washing: Less Is More

The number one thing that wears out clothing is washing too often. Unless visibly dirty, hanging outside for fresh air between wears extends time between washes. When you do wash, hand washing in cold water with mild detergent is safest. No wringing, no twisting.

Drying: Patience Pays Off

Lay flat to dry. Always. The dryer is the enemy of handmade clothing. Heat shrinks natural fibers, weakens thread, and damages embroidery. Dry out of direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Storage: Give It Space

Store in a cool, dry place. Fold rather than hang heavy items. Use cedar blocks instead of mothballs. Stuff tote bags with tissue paper to maintain shape.

She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

— Proverbs 31:27

Taking care of what you own is stewardship. Care for your pieces well and they will serve you for years.
